Lyocell jersey is a premium, eco-conscious knit fabric made primarily from cellulose fibers derived from sustainably sourced wood pulp—typically from eucalyptus, beech, or spruce trees. It is produced using a closed‑loop manufacturing process that recovers and recycles nearly all water and solvents (over 99% recovery rate), making it one of the most environmentally responsible textiles available. Lyocell is also fully biodegradable at the end of its life cycle.
In terms of performance and comfort, lyocell jersey is highly breathable and naturally moisture‑wicking, helping to regulate body temperature and keep the wearer dry. The fabric has a remarkably soft, smooth hand feel—often compared to silk—while offering the strength and durability of cotton and the cooling properties of linen. It exhibits good dimensional stability, high tensile strength (even when wet), and excellent draping qualities.
Lyocell jersey is widely used in garments such as T‑shirts, dresses, tops, loungewear, and underwear, often in blends with spandex/elastane (e.g., 95% lyocell / 5% elastane) for added stretch and recovery, or with organic cotton, merino wool, or recycled polyester to enhance specific performance attributes.
